Al Newton maintains an estate planning, probate, and business practice. Al represents individuals, estates, and businesses across Southwest Georgia. He gives advice and provides counseling on a wide range of issues involving estate and gift tax planning, and he has experience in implementing more sophisticated estate planning techniques to minimize estate and gift taxes and manage family wealth. Using his training and experience as a Certified Public Accountant, Al prepares estate and gift tax returns and regularly deals with the Internal Revenue Service for clients on a variety of tax issues.

In his business practice, Al advises clients on the choice of the business entity that best suits their needs, and forms corporations, limited liability companies and partnerships. He also prepares buy/sell agreements for business owners and transactional documents for the purchase and sale of businesses or assets. Because of his unique combination of education, training, and experience, he is an invaluable asset to our team approach for meeting the diverse needs of our clients.

Al is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Dougherty Circuit Bar Association, and the Albany Area Estate Planning Council. He also holds a membership in the Albany Chapter of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants. After graduating in 1990 from the University of Georgia summa cum laude with a B.B.A. in accounting, Al joined a global public accounting firm in Atlanta where he specialized in the audits of public utility and airline companies. Before returning to law school in 1994, he also worked for a local South Georgia accounting firm. Al obtained his J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law, graduating cum laude in 1997, and joined Watson Spence shortly afterwards.

Al currently serves on the board of directors of PeoplesSouth Bank headquartered in his hometown of Colquitt, Georgia. He has served as an officer and on the Board of Directors of the Artesian Sertoma Club and Easter Seals Southern Georgia.
